As I retire from 34 years of federal service at the end of the year (including 16 at NIH), I want to extend my appreciation to everyone who has read this blog over the past four years—from curious students to scientists and clinicians seeking the latest scientific information on disseminating and acting on evidence to strengthen the scientific workforce through equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
I hope the evidence-based information and topics I have shared and the interviews with NIH leaders have helped enlighten you. Throughout my tenure as the Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity (COSWD), I have tried to convey how multiple perspectives enhance biomedical and behavioral research in the fight to end disease and improve human health.
I am proud of the achievements that my office has either developed or taken a leadership role in, including the Engagement and Access for Research-Active Institutions (EARA) initiative, which is designed to help institutions navigate funding opportunities, access resources, and connect with NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices.
I have enjoyed a varied and prolific career, to which I have often said my gray hair attests. I have also earned a few smile lines that represent the joy of working at NIH, which I fondly refer to as “nerd heaven,” because of the outstanding researchers and depth of scientific knowledge.
Thanks to each of you for your unwavering support. It has been an incredible honor to serve at the helm of the COSWD office.
I wish you and your colleagues and loved ones a happy and healthy holiday season and new year!
