COSWD pursues efforts to catalyze change in the NIH intramural, extramural, and external scientific workforce, including NIH-funded institutions, in strong collaboration with aligned entities. These collaborations are essential for NIH to realize the full impact of its programs, develop and test new interventions, and ensure that DEIA best practices are implemented throughout the agency and the scientific enterprise.
Numerous NIH institutes, centers, and offices focus on enhancing DEIA across NIH and within the biomedical and behavioral research enterprise, including the NIH workforce and NIH-supported research. Together, our efforts promote and sustain an inclusive and equitable culture, enabling NIH to achieve institutional and research excellence.
The NIH’s Diversity Catalysts are ICO-designated leaders and experts who provide input to the COSWD on developing new initiatives toward enhancing scientific workforce diversity. They help the COSWD team build evidence, disseminate evidence-based information, and act on evidence to foster inclusive cultures and scientific workforce diversity across the life cycle. Additionally, during their bimonthly meetings, the Diversity Catalysts share collaborative opportunities with the goal of building and reinforcing community.
