Funding

The Distinguished Scholars Program (DSP) provides funding to support each scholar’s research for the first four years of the tenure track appointment.

Maximum DSP funding per year that may be awarded to help support a scholar's research:

Year 1Year 2Year 3Year 4
$1 million$750,000$400,000$200,000

The scholar's NIH Institute or Center (IC) is expected to contribute increasing levels of research funding during the first four years of the tenure track appointment and to provide full research funding after the end of DSP funding until tenure is achieved.

Funding for the DSP comes from contributions made by ICs to the Innovation Fund, which is centrally administered by the NIH Office of Intramural Research.
