Marie A. Bernard, M.D.
Dr. Marie A. Bernard is NIH’s Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity. In this role, she leads NIH’s effort to promote diversity, inclusiveness, and equity throughout the biomedical research enterprise. She was the Deputy Director of the NIH National Institute on Aging (NIA) from 2008–2021 and has been involved in a broad variety of NIH activities to further diversity. Dr. Bernard has been recognized with multiple awards for her leadership, including the 2020 NIH Director's Award for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Dr. Bernard also serves as a cochair for the NIH UNITE Initiative, which seeks to identify and address any structural racism that may exist within NIH and throughout the biomedical and behavioral workforce. Click the badge to visit the UNITE website.
